When you envision the amazing speakers who will have you spellbound from the TedX stage… who do you see?
PhDs, nuclear physicists, world renowned brain researchers, seasoned educators…
… a 15-year-old girl with Downs Syndrome???
At 7-years-old Sofia Sanchez caught the world’s attention with her viral video, “Down Syndrome Is Not Scary.”
She has since gone on to become an actress, model, author, and advocate.
She has been featured in print ads and commercials for Old Navy and Target, and has appeared in numerous films and TV series– including the Hunger Games prequel “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.”
Scholastic books’ critically acclaimed “You are Enough” series were inspired by Sofia’s adoption story. They feature titles like “You Are Loved” and “You Are Brave,” and uplift readers with messages of love, acceptance and empowerment.
Most recently, Sofia walked the pink carpet at the “Barbie” movie premier as the first-ever Barbie with Down Syndrome, earning a place on the nation’s “best-dressed” lists, and gaining an invitation to help launch Mattel’s first Down Syndrome Barbie.
This Saturday, April 6th Sofia is guaranteed to uplift, inspire and yes, disrupt your preconceptions. Don’t miss this shining star and her powerful talk at TedX Reno.
